GIG REVIEW: Inhuman Nature / Sadistic Force @ Voodoo Daddy’s (Norwich, UK)

A night of Thrash Metal awaits East Anglia! It is not always a common occurrence to see Norwich listed on an underground tour poster, so it was a nice surprise to see this raging bill enter Nelson’s county.

Local Sludge / Doom Metal heavyweights Acid Throne opened the night with a crushing set of low-tuned, guttural vocal intensity. Blaring cymbals and hard-hitting power chords in tow, these guys may have been a strange fit for a thrashing night, but they pulled it off with a very strong and unquestionably sludgy set. Fans of Crowbar, Down and the general Nola sound will definitely be impressed by these guys, who with a single demo under their belt, put on a strong show. If this sounds like your thing, you can catch them on the Jäegermeister tent at Bloodstock this year!

Next up, Texan Blackened Speed Metal maniacs Sadistic Force take the stage. This high-voltage power-trio put on a fearsome show of passionate hellfire that brings the spirits of Venom and Motörhead along with the likes of newer bands such as Hellripper, Bewitcher and Wraith to the stage with precision and fury. Along with their ripping bluesy riffs, shredding guitars pierced through bass breaks and ferocious drumming that altogether felt tight but natural. Frontman James and bassist Blaine shared vocal duties (with the prior doing most) with some really cool playoffs between the two. The whole set was ferocious and sharp, and a great debut for the Black-Speed Metal micro-genre in Norwich, hopefully this is a prophecy of more mayhem to come.

London crossover thrashers Inhuman Nature may only be from down the road, quite literally, but the audience response in what follows speaks for itself. In a tiny venue attic in East Anglia, sheer chaos erupted with moshing and headbanging of violent proportions ensuing to the soundtrack of these crazy thrashers. The hardcore elements in their sound provided some stomping grooves while the metallic fury at the heart of their sound was not even momentarily overshadowed (especially in their wicked cover of Judas Priest’s “Breaking The Law”). Their snappy set was a really strong reminder that although Norwich’s underground music scene has been hit or miss for a few years, some killer Thrash Metal brings people out of the woodwork and gets them moving just as hard as any bigger city. So more of this, please!
