ALBUM REVIEW: Mörghuul – Domination Of The Beast

Czechia blackened Thrash/Speed Metal youngsters MÖRGHUUL give us their debut full length, out via Doomentia Records on February 2nd.

Introducing themselves with a short couple moments of samples leading into eerie guitars, Mörghuul brings the intimidating spirit of darkness straight to life. The chiming of cymbals and otherworldly feel to this starting track should already have you gripped. Stomping out pure thrashing mania with ferocious grooves and a tight production, these young bangers really hammer in the old school Thrash Metal attack. Ultimately fast, raging craziness blisters from the speakers in the form of feral riffing, drumming mayhem and some truly insane vocals. Tormenting all in their path, Mörghuul initiate a conflict of endless pain that will surely keep you thrashing for its half hour of total savagery.

Although primal and brutish in parts, there is a wicked and wonderful sense of melody and rhythm in their songs which keep that adoration for the old school burning bright while portraying huge energetic and anthemic qualities in their songs. Not only is the music truly impressive but the production sounds absolutely fantastic, magnificently showcasing everything this record really has to offer in all of its glory. From the blasphemous instrumental racket packed with killer songwriting to the utterly mental vocal delivery, there is nothing short of boundless passion and frantic Heavy Metal mania on “Domination of the Beast” which make it an easy record to fall in love with.

Taking sensibilities from the 80s Thrash and Speed Metal legends, Mörghuul show no mercy from start to end on this album. There sense of dynamics conjures some evil spirits while never relying too much on atmosphere (or worse, forgetting the art of the riff). No, these headbanging lunatics keep things moving at an impressive but not rushed pace that ensures even the dullest brain will have their attention kept through this charmingly crazed little opus. Firing on full overdrive ’til the end, this galloping, rambunctious and fun cut of Thrash Metal is contagiously impassioned and so damn lively, it is impossible to resist being a part of the chaos.

A truly monumental first record of mighty Thrash Metal excellence. Melodic, groovy, tight, evil and old school as hell. Mörghuul really put the Czech Republic’s youth back on the map. As a country with a history of Extreme Metal’s finest, it’s amazing to see a healthy future among the youth for real metallic hellfire staying alive.
