DEMO REVIEW: Cryptivore – Unseen Divinity

Australian Death Metal mob CRYPTIVORE have their first demo out via Dawning Septic Productions. Time to get grimy.

The demo has a consistent bellow of guttural Swedeath style guitars over hammering drums with hideous snarled vocals and a raw, lo fi production that has a slight Grindcore edge to it. There are some really nice melodic flourishes to break up the slew of groovy morbid riffing and the band do a killer job of balancing these styles making for a riveting display of pure brutality that hooks itself into your flesh beautifully. The filthy onslaught of extremity is consistently fast-paced except for the occasional doomy break but overall giving a huge momentum and monolithic atmosphere of marvellous songwriting and crushing instrumentals backing up some vomited vocal spew. There is a very obvious influence from the Swedish scene that keeps chainsaw riffing in the foreground for which I am grateful, the drummer doing a mental job keeping up unforgiving battery behind the grinding axe work. This demo is a really promising start and definitely a band I hope will release something else in the coming years. -7.5/10
