EP REVIEW: Concilivm – The Veiled Enigma

More from Dawning Septic Productions, this time Concilivm with their debut EP. Some promising Death Metal from the Chilean underground.

Immediately I am surprised by the sheer diversity of the sound which transcends from cavernous doomy atmospherics to Bolt Thrower style mid-tempo crawls and full blow insanity.  The band do a magnificent job of blending these styles together to create a uniquely visceral yet engaging piece of monstrously intense and spectral musical tapestry with unhinging darkness flowing forth from the songwriting while the delivery conjures up the blackest flames of hatred that are usually found more commonly in Black Metal. This guttural and mesmerising EP has such a fantastically one of a kind feel to it that I cannot believe I never stumbled across this band before but I certainly am glad that I have. The dissonant edge that is nuanced on the morbid flow of the release is captivating and unsettling, giving just enough discourse from the bludgeoning grooves and doomy bridges to keep the victim unsuspecting of whatever sonic onslaughts lie ahead. This is definitely some of the most interesting Death Metal I have reviewed in some time, perhaps more in the vein of Danish death-dealers DEIQUISITOR. I think this will really appeal to fans of any old school, doom-influenced or totally weird Death Metal. -8.5/10
