EP REVIEW: Sacrifixion – Shower Me In Death

The debut EP from German Blackened Death Thrashers SACRIFIXION is out via Hells Headbangers, so let’s get right into the madness!

Blasting right in with Death-Thrashing mayhem, the raw and primal energy of the music is intense and brutal from the onset with pulverising riffs stomping atop maniacal drum work with vicious vocals snarling pure malice to the instrumental fury. With each unrelenting storm of riffs and blast beats, the tormenting lyrical blasphemy keeps things unholy and occasional solo assaults give some lead guitar aggression, perfectly fitting the old school carnage at hand. There is a certain punk feeling to this metallic vitriol that further adds attitude and barbarity to the onslaught of high speed extremity. With its raw production and energetic performance, the all-round overbearing and unforgiving execution of this music is excellent, taking its cues from 80s South America and fellow German’s like Sodom and Kreator. Do not be fooled into thinking this is a one trick horse of repetitive worship, the 3rd song brings in some Archgoat-y and doom-tinged tempos and and equally oppressive atmosphere while not steering away from the first wave Black Metal feeling before jumping back into d-beat fuelled debauchery. Here we see a fine example of music before Black, Death and Thrash Metal were necessarily separate entities, focussing on a sheer and mighty aggression and delivery of powerful Heavy Metal, the old school way. Definitely one to check out for the maniacs seeking true proto-Extreme Metal violence of grand quality.

Rating: 8 out of 10.
